Steve Hackett: "Genesis Revisited II" (2012)

15 años después, Steve Hackett nos ofrece una segunda parte de su GENESIS REVISITED de 1996, basado en los temas clásicos de Genesis, en esta ocasión con especial predilección por el album "Wind & Wuthering" de 1977 y algún tema propio compuesto durante su estancia en Genesis, donde valdría recordar que estuvo como guitarrista entre 1970 y 1977.

Su propósito ha sido la de reavivar y recrear los temas de GENESIS a través de las nuevas tecnologías y añadirles algunos detalles nuevos, el caso de "The Musical Box" o por ejemplo introducciones nuevas como la melodía de Greensleeves en "Dancing With The Moonlit Knight", utilización de instrumentos de cuerda en lugar de mellotron y arreglos orquestales como en "Can-Utility And The Coastliners", donde encontramos a Steven Wilson de Porcupine Tree poniendo su voz

Steve Hackett ha mantenido el espíritu original de los temas, para muchos esto puede resultar no suficiente, las versiones deberían incluir alguna aportación "personal" mas que recrear los temas nota por nota, yo personalmente discrepo, voy a lo seguro, se que me voy a encontrar y mas viendo alguna versión que ha salido últimamente, caso por ejemplo tributo a Supertramp "Songs of the Century" donde hay mas de uno que se encarga literalmente de destrozar temas por darle otro aire, como es el caso de Rick Wakeman y "Crime Of The Century".

 

Destacaría "Supper's Ready" muy parecido al original pero bajo mi opinión con un acertado elenco de cantantes, donde encontramos a Mikael Akerfeldt de Opeth o Francis Dunnery de It Bites y con la corta participación en las voces del propio Steve Hackett haciendo la clásica pregunta A flower?. Otro tema destacable es "The Lamia" con Steve Rothery de Marillion colaborando en las guitarras a dúo con Steve Hackett y la acertada y estupenda voz de Nik Kershaw, hacen de este tema una de las versiones mas acertadas.

Curiosa versión de "The Return Of The Giant Hogweed" con la presencia de Neal Morse en los vocales y el dúo guitarrista Steve Hackett y Roine Stolt, hace pensar en una variante de Transatlantic. La versión de "Ripples" es interpretada por la cantante Amanda Lehmann. La versión de "Shadow Of The Hierophant" un tema escrito con Mike Rutherford en las sesiones del Foxtrot donde Steve Hackett vuelve a contar con la colaboración de Steven Wilson esta vez a la guitarra y como no, tal como hiciera en la primera parte Genesis Revisited, no podía faltar la presencia del omnipresente y voluntarioso colaborador John Wetton en el tema "Afterglow". Algun dia me entretendre en listar todos los proyectos donde este buen hombre ha colaborado, debe ser record Guinness seguro.
