Hällas: "Panorama" (2026)

Hällas has always played that game, building passageways between seventies hard rock, progressive epic grandeur, and a strain of science-fiction romanticism that refuses to bow to trends. Panorama (2026) is no exception; if anything, it confirms that the Swedish band from Jönköping has learned to look at its own universe from a new vantage point — broader, calmer, and more self-aware.

Hällas siempre ha jugado a eso, a construir pasadizos entre el hard rock setentero, la épica progresiva y un romanticismo de ciencia ficción que no entiende de modas. Panorama (2026) no es una excepción; es, más bien, la confirmación de que la banda sueca procedente de Jönköping ha aprendido a mirar su propio universo desde una altura nueva, más amplia, más serena.

From the opening track, “Above the Continuum,” stretching past the 21-minute mark, the album unfolds with a sense of uninterrupted journey — this time tinged with an unmistakable eighties hue, driven by synthwave-styled synthesizers, vocoder textures, and flashes of New Age atmosphere, at moments reminiscent of projects like ERA. There is no haste, no gratuitous dramatic punches. The guitars trace melodic lines that feel inherited from a worn seventies vinyl, yet the production is crisp, almost cinematic in scope. The piece swells into something epic in the vein of Yes; the keyboards do not merely decorate — they steer. And the voice, poised between wistful nostalgia and heroic proclamation, serves as the narrator of a story that is never fully explained, because it does not need to be.

Desde el primer tema "Above the Continuum" de algo mas de 21 minutos, el disco despliega una sensación de viaje continuo, en esta ocasión con un tono ochentero con sintetizador estilo synthwave, vocacer y ecos a New age, ejemplo ERA. No hay prisas ni golpes de efecto gratuitos. Las guitarras dibujan líneas melódicas que parecen heredadas de un vinilo gastado de los años setenta, pero el sonido es nítido, casi cinematográfico. El tema se vuelve épico a lo Yes, los teclados no decoran: guían. Y la voz, siempre en ese punto entre la nostalgia y la proclamación heroica, actúa como narrador de un relato que nunca se explica del todo, porque no lo necesita.

What makes Panorama truly compelling is its sense of balance. Hällas no longer feels the need to prove that it can craft progressive rock — that was established long ago. Everything flows with a natural ease that signals maturity, not complacency.

El tema elegido como sencillo "Face of an Angel" tiene gancho y el video impresiona.

Lo interesante de Panorama es su equilibrio. Hällas ya no se esfuerza por demostrar que sabe hacer rock progresivo, porque eso quedó claro hace tiempo. Aquí hay más espacio, más aire entre notas, más atención al desarrollo que al impacto inmediato. Las canciones crecen despacio, se repliegan, vuelven a abrirse. Todo fluye con una naturalidad que delata madurez, no acomodamiento.

There are echoes of cosmic adventures, of endless highways beneath impossible skies, but also a deeply human melancholy — almost domestic in its intimacy. It is as if the band has come to understand that grandeur resonates most powerfully when filtered through recognizable emotion. This is not an album built on instant anthems; it is meant to be experienced in full, from beginning to end, discovering how each track gains meaning through its dialogue with the next.

Hay ecos de aventuras cósmicas, de carreteras infinitas bajo cielos imposibles, pero también una melancolía muy humana, casi doméstica. Como si la banda hubiera entendido que la épica funciona mejor cuando se filtra a través de emociones reconocibles. No es un disco de himnos inmediatos; es un álbum para dejar correr entero, de principio a fin, y descubrir cómo cada tema gana sentido cuando dialoga con el siguiente.

Panorama does not attempt to reinvent anything. And that is precisely where its strength lies. It is an album that looks back with affection, at the present with intelligence, and toward the future without anxiety. A record that unfolds like a wide horizon: you may not know exactly what lies beyond it, but you feel certain it is worth standing still and watching a little longer.
