To celebrate their tenth anniversary in style, the magnificent Norwegian duo Jordsjø treats us to their ninth global release: this introspective and complex "Pestkrønikene", released in 2026 by the Dying Victims Productions label.

The curious thing about this work is that it was originally born as a mere compilation of studio outtakes recorded between 2020 and 2025; however, during post-production, the compositions took on a life of their own and ended up cohesively merging into a deeply structured concept album, where all the tracks interweave flawlessly. 

At the forefront of the project remains the incredible multi-instrumentalist Håkon Oftung (an old acquaintance of the Oslo underground due to his militancy in pivotal bands such as Wobbler, Tusmørke, or Elend), seconded by his childhood friend Kristian Frøland on drums and at the production helm.

Musically, the record maintains that characteristic analog warmth of their previous works ("Salighet", "Pastoralia"), but here they venture into much darker, more aggressive, and apocalyptic-tinged passages. The sound is a true delight of classic progressive rock with Nordic Folk-Rock roots, but seasoned with a seventies punch that looks straight into the eyes of early Rush, Uriah Heep, or Deep Purple's heavy hard rock. Throughout its concise 36 minutes, intricate flute lines, enveloping symphonic passages, rustic rhythm shifts, and superb duels between the organ and sharp electric guitars parade by, managing to recreate a period atmosphere that feels extracted from a parallel universe.

Highlights include the opening track, 'Pestkrønikene', which shares its name with the album; it features the group's classic sound but with a Deep Purple-esque backdrop in the backing vocals and guitar solos, without forgetting the Folk passages and flute solos typical of Scandinavian prog. It is closely followed in quality by 'White Magic', featuring a collaboration with Jon A. Henriksen from the old-school heavy/speed metal band Black Magic. 

The album continues without losing an ounce of quality, maintaining that 70s progressive hard rock touch with 'Seven Heads'.

'Kaosveldets Endelikt' is an instrumental with an immersive, slow-tempo folk sound that turns cheerful at times, driven by the flute and acoustic guitar; Lars Fredrik Frøislie from Wobbler collaborates on this track.

'The Awakened' brings the Wobbler sound, sounding like YES traveling along the Norwegian coastlines. The characteristic vocals of Andreas Prestmo from Wobbler give it a distinctive touch compared to what has been heard so far on the album.

'Spiritual Lament' surprises us with an electric guitar solo that sets a hard rock rhythm previously unheard from the Norwegian band, backed by the wonderful drumming rhythm of guest musician Kristian Valbo.

Closing the album is the hypnotic and immersive 'Talisman II', featuring once again a collaboration with Jon A. Henriksen."

Lyrically, the album explores dense and conceptual themes linked to war, chaos, the collapse of empires, cults, and the rise of new dawns. 

The experience is enormously enriched thanks to stellar collaborations from the Norwegian scene: Jon Henriksen lends his hypnotic vocals to "White Magic" (a superb track dealing with ideological control) and repeats at the end of the album; Andreas Prestmo from Wobbler distills pure sonic alchemy with his voice on "The Awakened"; Lars Fredrik Frøislie (also from Wobbler) gifts us a memorable passage with his Minimoog Model D on "Kaosveldets Endelikt"; and Kristian Valbo lays down a crushing drum performance on the intricate "Spiritual Lament". The journey concludes in a mythical fashion with "Talisman II", closing a perfect circle.

Conclusion:

A compact and generous gem of fantastic exploration. An album made "the old-fashioned way"—honest, artisanal, and heroic—which confirms Jordsjø as one of the most solid banners of modern progressive rock. Scandinavian sonic dynamite that will absolutely fascinate you!

Para celebrar por todo lo alto su décimo aniversario, el magnífico dúo noruego Jordsjø nos regala su noveno lanzamiento global: este introspectivo y complejo "Pestkrønikene", editado en 2026 por el sello Dying Victims Productions.

Lo curioso de este trabajo es que originalmente nació como una mera recopilación de descartes de estudio grabados entre 2020 y 2025; sin embargo, durante la postproducción, las composiciones cobraron vida propia y terminaron cohesionándose en un álbum conceptual profundamente estructurado, donde todos los temas se entrelazan de manera impecable.

Al frente del proyecto sigue el increíble multiinstrumentalista Håkon Oftung (viejo conocido del underground de Oslo por su militancia en bandas capitales como Wobbler, Tusmørke o Elend), secundado por su compañero de infancia Kristian Frøland a la bateria y a los mandos de la producción.

Musicalmente, el disco mantiene esa calidez analógica tan característica de sus trabajos previos ("Salighet", "Pastoralia"), pero aquí se adentran en pasajes mucho más oscuros, agresivos y de tintes apocalípticos.

El sonido es una auténtica delicia de rock progresivo clásico con raíces de Folk-Rock nórdico, pero aderezado con una pegada setentera que mira de frente al Hard Rock de Deep Purple, primerizos Rush o Uriah Heep. 

A lo largo de sus concisos 36 minutos desfilan intrincadas líneas de flauta, envolventes pasajes sinfónicos, quiebros de ritmos rústicos y duelos soberbios entre el órgano y afiladas guitarras eléctricas, logrando recrear una atmósfera de época que parece extraída de un universo paralelo.

Destacan la inicial Pestkrønikene que da nombre al disco con el sonido clásico del grupo pero con un fondo de Deep Purple en los coros y solos de guitarra, sin olvidar los pasajes Folk y los solos de flauta tipicos del prog escandinavo, le sigue muy de cerca en calidad "White Magic" con la colaboración de Jon A. Henriksen de la banda de heavy/speed metal de la vieja escuela, Black Magic. Continua sin perder una apendice de calidad y con ese toque Hard progresivo setentero con "Seven Heads". 

Kaosveldets Endelikt es un instrumental con un envolvente sonido de folk pausado y alegre por momentos protagonizados por la flauta y guitarra acústica, Lars Fredrik Frøislie de Woobler colabora en el tema

The Awakened trae el sonido Woobler, suena a YES viajando por las costas noruegas, los vocales caracteristicos de Andreas Prestmo de Woobler le dan un toque distintivo de lo oído hasta ahora en el album.

Spiritual Lament nos sorprende por el solo de guitarra eléctrica que pone un ritmo hard rock inédito hasta ahora en la banda noruega con el estupenda ritmica de la baterial del invitado, Kristian Valbo.

Cierra el disco la hipnotica y envolvente Talisman II con la colaboración de nuevo de Jon A. Henriksen.

Líricamente, el disco explora temáticas densas y conceptuales vinculadas a la guerra, el caos, el colapso de imperios, sectas y el surgimiento de nuevos amaneceres. 

La experiencia se enriquece enormemente gracias a colaboraciones estelares de la escena noruega: Jon Henriksen aporta su hipnótica voz en "White Magic" (un tema soberbio sobre control ideológico) y repite al final del álbum; Andreas Prestmo de Wobbler destila pura alquimia sónica con su voz en "The Awakened"; Lars Fredrik Frøislie (también de Wobbler) nos regala un pasaje memorable con su Minimoog Model D en "Kaosveldets Endelikt"; y Kristian Valbo mete una batería aplastante en la intrincada "Spiritual Lament".

El viaje concluye de forma mítica con "Talisman II", cerrando un círculo perfecto.

Conclusión:

Una joya compacta y generosa de exploración fantástica. Un disco hecho "a la antigua usanza", honesto, artesanal y heroico, que confirma a Jordsjø como uno de los estandartes más sólidos del progresivo actual. ¡Dinamita sónica escandinava que os fascinará!
